Sarah and Kevin

New Year's Resolution

Sarah stood at the front of the smoky bar. She leaned against the wall with her arms crossed and listened to the band play. She narrowed her eyes and pressed her lips together, trying to be as critical of the performance as possible.

The next song began and the music thudded around her, controlling her heartbeat. It was a slower song and the lead singer was wailing like his heart was broken. The music swept around her like a wave during a storm. She leaned her head against the wall and watched them play.
The drummer kept time perfectly. The lead guitarist didn't appear to miss a note and was a perfect counterpoint to the manic lead singer. But the bass player was the one who held her attention the longest. He appeared to be in a trance during the song, swept up in playing his guitar. She took a deep breath as the song ended.

They took a break and Sarah watched them get drinks from the bar. The lead singer had shoulder length hair that was wavy and black. He was on the shorter side for a man, but his shoulders were broad and he had a well shaped body. The lead guitarist had short, spiky black hair. He was a little taller than the lead singer. His nose was of the Roman variety and he always looked serious, rarely smiling. The drummer had long blond hair that he always seemed to hide behind. He was about the same size as the lead guitarist. The bass player towered over the other members of the band. His brown hair hung in a straight curtain to the middle of his back. He wore thick glasses.

Sarah uncrossed her arms and walked to the bar where they stood and slowly made her way past them. She went into the back room of the bar and flopped down on the couch.

"Well, what do ya think?" Jimmy asked her from behind his desk.

"I want you to go ahead and make them the offer," Sarah said.

"Are you sure?"

Sarah smiled. "Don't worry about me. I can handle them."

Jimmy sighed. "I hope so. I also hope they appreciate what you're about to do for them."
